While Dubai International opened in 1960, the following decade saw the airport’s distinctive architectural identity take shape, as well as several improvements to its operational facilities.
The biggest milestone for DXB in the 1970s was the opening of a new three-storey terminal building and control tower. Developments also included additional taxiways, runway lengthening, extension of aprons, airfield lighting and landing instruments.
